As the awards testify, the Blue Pyrenees Section One Shiraz is a magnificent Shiraz. The nose is of fragrant blueberry-like fruit plus herbs, spice and toasty oak. The taste is dark fruits and licorice intermingled with forest undergrowth notes precede a long lasting, fine tannin fruit and oak flavoured finish. The medium weight but firm structure and vibrancy of this wine ensure it has many possible food matches.
This wine contains tiny portions of viognier and cabernet sauvignon to add lift and brightness but its core is rich shiraz from 40-year-old vines. French and American oak are used for seasoning and the end result is a dark, plummy, medium-weight wine with a potpourri of spice elements that will cellar well for a decade or more. (Winsor Dobbin). Dan Murphy’s Wine Panel rates this as 98/100 points.
Truly a fabulous wine.
